Fall 2015

As we near the winter holidays, I'm working to increase my inventory prior to the "rush."

Today I listed this: "Sterling Silver Key and Vintage Coro 4 Picture Locket Necklace"

This awesome necklace is made with a vintage silver-plated Coro four picture locket. The locket opens to hold four photos (three under metal frames and one with tape). All photos can easily be removed on replaced with your treasures. I hung this locket on a sterling-silver ball chain that I hand-oxidized. The clasp on this chain is super-tiny which is why I made the chain long enough to slip on and off. Along with the locket, I hung a sterling-silver cast "master key" which reads "EAGLE LOCK CO. 178". I love how all the silvers meld.

This chain measures approximately 30 inches but can be easily shortened upon request at check-out. The locket hangs approximately 1 inch from the chain and the photo portion of the locket is approximately 3/4 inch in diameter.

I'm also working on new charm bracelets and a couple custom orders...stay tuned!

Happy Veteran's Day

Happy Veteran's Day to all those past, present and future who have and will have served our military.  To quote Mark Twain "In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."

To celebrate Veteran's Day, I trash-picked a beautiful metal milk jug, originally from "Supplee" dairy in Philadelphia.  This beautiful red "chippy" piece has an eagle with outstretched wings...nothing says American more than Philadelphia, veterans, eagles and milk :)

Thanks again to all who have served!

Love and Luck 4 Picture Locket Necklace in Silver

A few years ago, I bought some vintage never-used silver lockets from a closing jewelry store.  I loved their shine, their ability to hold four pictures, their heart design that morphed into a four-leaf clover when they were open, etc.

I hung these lockets from a sterling silver-heart link chain and the results are fabulous (if I do say so myself).  They have also been selling with frequency and since I only have a few lockets left, I thought I would share them here.

MTV's Awkward Butterfly Necklace

At the request of a friend, I created a butterfly necklace similar to the one Jenna wear's on MTV's Awkward.  I think it came out great.  It is a brass butterfly charm connected to a gold-filled chain with a gold-filled spring ring closure.

I Heart Minnesota

Over the past few days, I've gotten quite a few orders for my Teensy State Charm Necklaces from people in Minnesota.

This happens occasionally where I'll sell a run of a bunch of necklaces of a particular state.  Most recently, it was New Hampshire.  I didn't think too much of it, and then one of my buyers let me know that Falen, a new DJ on the Dave Ryan in the Morning show had received my necklace and had been plugging them online and on the radio...I'm so flattered and she is obviously very loved by her fans.  You can read about her here: http://daveryanshow.iheart.com/pages/falen.html

If you would like your own state necklace, you can purchase it here

Adventures in Thrifting

I've been meaning to post pictures of my finds from last weekend's supply-acquiring outtings...since last weekend.  Below is a picture of said finds:
The quality of this picture is awful but here you can see a GORGEOUS gold-filled heart locket and 6 vintage character charms.  I intend to hang the locket from a gold-filled chain and make a rockin' charm bracelet with the little enamel charms.  I also purchased a vintage brooch which I have already transformed into a necklace that I love:

This thrifting trip was super-special because it's the first trip to an estate sale that we made as an entire family (yes, kids included).  Going to estate sales always feels slighty voyeuristic to me; looking through kitchen cabinets, rifling through closets and drawers, fondling people's personal effects, but one this has become apparent to me - I LOVE a mudroom.  It's one of the rooms that excite me most in other's homes. A room you come into from the garage where there are hooks for coats and bins for shoes, perhaps even your washer and dryer live there.  The original plan of our house had such a room but when the previous owners remodeled it, they closed the mudroom off from the garage and turned it into a bedroom which we then turned into our home office.  I can't imagine life without my office but I still have mild yearnings for a mudroom...

Happy Good Friday!

Silver Fleur de Lis - Vintage Coro 4 Picture Locket Necklace

This is my newest creation!  It is a vintage silver-plated four picture locket. The signed Coro locket opens to hold four photos under metal frames and plastic lenses. The original photos are still present and can easily be removed and replaced with your treasures. The locket is hanging on a silver-plated rolo chain along with a sterling silver fleur de lis charm. There is a sterling silver springring closure as well as my signature "basilthecat" charm.

This necklace measures approximately 31 inches but can (easily) be shortened upon request. The locket hangs approximately 1.5 inches from the chain.

This necklace can be purchased via this link: http://www.etsy.com/listing/71935440/silver-fleur-de-lis-4-picture-coro
